I wish I had my old dishwasher back….. Rating:1 out of 5 stars I am not satisfied at all with this dishwasher. The only good thing about it is that it is quiet. The dishes come out still dirty and soaking wet. I have tried different detergents but it just does not do a good job. The drying cycle does not work well at all either.
Good value. But must wash water ALWAYS be pre-heated? Rating:3 out of 5 stars Not 4 to 5 stars because:
-No push/pull/turn knob for turning it on and off like our old Frigidaire. A 2-year-old granddaughter lives with us, & she might push the “Cancel/Drain” button, or a “Cycles” or “Options”, button, without our knowing, & cause a real inconvenience. The old unit didn’t have lighted buttons which would attract her attention, and the big knob wasn’t easy for her to push/pull/turn;
-If we forget to run hot water into the sink before starting a wash, we might have trouble (see below).
This model is a “Consumer Reports” Best Buy.” We paid $388 at Lowe’s, & paid $79 for delivery. They charge $99 for installation.
Another Amazon review tipped us off to the importance of keeping the silverware/flatware basket from our old Frigidaire dishwasher, because this model’s silverware rack is less convenient to use.
The installer asked whether we bought the extended warranty (for up to 4 years). He seemed to believe we might need it because this model of dishwasher sometimes stops working and can’t be restarted by the user/owner, after a wash cycle is started with water which isn’t hot enough! He said something about a function light flashing 7 times to signal a problem with the wash water’s temperature. The “Troubleshooting” section says that if the “Clean” light is flashing you must call a service technician. But it also says the dishwasher “runs longer while heating water”, and “a delay automatically occurs in some wash & rinse cycles until the water reaches the proper temperature.” HE WARNED THAT BEFORE EVER RUNNING THIS DISHWASHER WE SHOULD RUN THE NEAREST HOT WATER TAP UNTIL THE WATER IS HOT. In other words, he believes that before every/any load is washed, the water running into the kitchen sink should be hot. I hope he’s wrong, because we won’t always remember to run hot water just before starting a wash cycle!
(We’d prefer to not always have to use the “High-Temp Wash” option in order to ensure that the wash water is hot enough, because of the added cost for electricity.)
Read all of the “Important User Information” and the “Dishwasher Use” instructions, to be sure of good results. There are 1-1/2 pages of “Troubleshooting” help.
The installer recommended using Cascade liquid detergent, and he recommended using a rinse aid. He said to avoid using Electrasol detergent tablets, because they give poor results. But maybe they work fine with softer water than we have here in Utah.
“Consumer Reports” August 2008 rated 3 brands of liquid and powder detergents: Cascade, Wal-Mart’s brand, and Target’s brand. Cascade brand is rated much higher than the other 2 brands. We hope to get adequate results using Costco’s private brand.
The owner manual gets 3 stars: It’s brief, but written well enough to understand.
This dishwasher is quieter than the 19-year-old unit we removed yesterday. Overall, we’re pleased with it so far.
Apparently failure to use a rinse aid results in poor drying performance.
Dishwasher does a great job! Rating:5 out of 5 stars Just got this installed by Sears. Got it for less than here. It is very quiet. Cleans better than I can by hand. The rack design is excellent and most everything I have fits in the tub.
I got excellent results with the Electrasol 3 in 1 detergent tablets that came with it. bought some more at Target.
Seems well made. Would defintiely buy it again. The next model up is the 1100 and has a few more wash cycles and an adjustable rack.
There is a Sears/Kenmore version of the 1100 that can be had on sale for cheap.
Broke after 2 years Rating:1 out of 5 stars This dishwasher worked fine for 2 years. It then stopped working and I was told I needed to buy a new electronic panel and touch panel. The installation company charged me to tell me it was broken, and they did not stand behind their product because “Whirlpool made it, take it up with them.” I then ordered the part from Whirlpool and tried to cancel it two minutes later and they would not let me cancel the order. They also said that they take no returns.
Great design, very happy!! Rating:5 out of 5 stars Just got this installed. Very quiet, cleans well, tall tub fits anything large. Very well made. Satisfied & happy with it. Got it at Sears.
