GREAT, BUT BROKE AFTER THE FIRST YEAR
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I bought this dishwasher from Compact Appliance (through Amazon) a year and a half ago. It was GREAT for that year and a half–super clean dishes, no problems AT all with it in any way. We LOVED it (especially for the price). However, a week ago it started dripping water down the side. I figured maybe I was using too much dishwasher detergent (I had recently switched brands and figured maybe I wasn’t used to the new one yet and was using more than i should for a smaller machine). I put a paper towel below and started using less detergent. Still leaking. A few days later (of using it once a day), the dripping got much heavier (I now needed a small towel), and after 2 more days like this, I opened the machine at the end of the cycle and found that the seal on the inside of the front window had completely come loose. Leaking issue cause found–unfortunately, I couldn’t find any sort of hot-water durable caulk or silicone seal that would re-seal it safely without risk of leaching out chemicals onto my dishes. So… we’re going to have to buy a new one. I don’t think we’ll be buying this one again because the front window seems to create more problems than it’s worth (if Edgestar had left out the window and just had a solid front, we’d probably still be enjoying our portable dishwasher).

I read all the reviews and was so “ify” about ordering because my spending money is really limited and I couldn’t afford a bad deal…I got a GREAT deal…took me about 25 minutes to hook it up and use it…it is a god send and will help this 66 yr old widow more than you know. It is a bit larger than I thought it was but bought a rolling cart to put it on and all is well.
You might be really careful when you disconnect it from the faucet as it drips excess water for quite a while but now that I know that…I will have clean, sanitary dishes again. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again. I do wish people would give a senior citizen discount though.
Disappointed

I loved this machine for the first 4 months–after that it has been nothing but trouble . It leaks from the bottom and from the hoses that will not stay tight. I have to put towels everywhere to stop from damaging my counter and floors. I bought a year contract to return and I am sending it back!
Shoddy Design, Lousy service

This is an astonishingly bad package. It’s nearly impossible to pack in the promised “four standard place settings” or for it to “accept plates up to 11″ in diameter”: even the photo they include for how to do this in the user booklet is laughable, and it turns out that they only even *pretend* that it will be able to take in 1 large plate; moreover, the basket for cutlery regularly falls through the base of the rack, there are gaps elsewhere designed to fit in dishes in strictly predefined fashion that instead lead to items falling through the gaps if you aren’t using the same size or distributions of dishes, various dish kinds don’t fit efficiently, etc.
To add insult to injury, the water-removal pump began to wear down toward the end of the first month after receipt, and I began getting intermittent bouts of being left with an inch of graywater in the bottom of the unit after running the cycle. These became progressively more the norm, until I was manually bailing out the dishwasher at the end of every wash cycle.
I phoned the company in hopes of having this resolved; as it turns out, their warranty is, um, a little restrictive: after the first 30 days, my options were that either (a) they would ship me a new pump, and I could pay someone install it, or (b) I could ship them, at my expense, the whole unit, and then pay THEM to install the pump!
In short: the machine is badly designed, even when it works; from my experience and a couple of other reviews here and elsewhere on the web, it does not appear to be terribly robust in its design; and the company totally does not back up their crummy products.
Outstanding Dishwasher I Put to the Test

I wanted to write a review especially after reading some of the misinformation being spread about this machine. I’ve had it nearly a year now and am very pleased with its performance. At first I was equally unhappy with the long wash cycle, but there are optional choices many appear to have not attempted. The “3″ choice is the 50 minute cycle and highly recommended. The others are agreeably far too long.
This machine is awesome and has saved me loads of time washing my own dishes I’ve done for many years. It properly sanitizes and most always gets dishes clean unless you don’t properly prep them. For instance, don’t expect dried food to get clean. It may indeed come off, but it’s important to wash off most dishes as is necessary with larger machines.
This machine is a winner. If you have low water pressure, that’s not this machine’s fault. If you expect this washer to preheat water, you’re asking for too much. All you need to do is run the water prior to starting the washer to ensure hot water will run through immediately. This washer does have a heater, primarily to dry dishes for the longer wash settings.
It’s true on the “3″ setting, which is 50 minutes the dishes have water on them after the wash. You can simply leave them to dry a few hours and open the washer a crack. Or, you can shake off the water and set them out to dry a few minutes.
I don’t know what people expect for a countertop dishwasher, but some here are a little too critical. This washer is awesome and I’d give it 10 stars if I could. It’s saved me an enormous amount of time and water usage as well. It only uses 3 gallons of water.
Life Saver!!

This has honestly saved me about 10 hours a week of washing dishes. It is the best thing since sliced bread. The only MINOR thing that I could possibly complain about is that it is a little on the noisy side, but it washed in under an hour, so I can deal with it for that long. It gets the dishes cleaner than I could possibly get them by hand, and in an eight of the time. I HIGHLY recommend it, even though it seems to be unavailable everywhere for some reason
Great for small spaces – easy to install

I bought this for my mom, who has a small, oddly shaped kitchen that wouldn’t allow for a larger dishwasher. It was easy to set up (though I found the directions kind of confusing, there aren’t many parts and it’s pretty much obvious). We had one leak during the first load, but my brother discovered it was just that I hadn’t fully tightened the connection between the sink and the machine. Since then, no problems and my mom even recommended it to her hairdresser.
I also really like the form/design. The sleek silver look is very sexy and modern.
Does not wash dishes well
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
There are a number of problems with this product:
1) It does not wash dishes well.
2) The wash cycles are too long for such a small machine: the shortest cycle is 70 min, and it’s called “rapid wash.” The longest, called “normal wash” is 130 min.
3) The poor design of the crate in one area results in dishes dipping too low and interfering with the rotating spray arm. Thus, this area of the crate cannot have dishes placed in it and is essentially useless.
4) The washer does not dry dishes. After taking the dishes out, they are still wet.
Does exactly what I need it to do

I’ve only had the dishwasher for a few weeks now, but I can tell you it’s improved my life considerably since then. I love to cook. Unfortunately I absolutely loathe doing dishes. This item, while rather hefty, gives me somewhere to stick my rinsed off dishes after eating.
And when it’s full? Voila. I press a button and everything is cleaned. No stress.
Have had zero problems with leaks. And since the washing time is adjustable, it’s also rather quick.
Con: if I had to pick one. Is that it’s rather loud. But, jeez, you’re getting your dishes washed. Also, potential jealousy from your girlfriend when she realizes you’ve been talking about nothing but your dishwasher for hours.
Good, Solid Performance Commensurate w/ Price & Size

–Edgestar Portable Countertop Dishwasher–
Pros:
The performance of this dishwasher is excellent given its portability and price. Unlike what other reviewers have posted, it does indeed have the ability to dry dishes by heat on its most powerful cleaning setting (which runs about an hour and a half). It doesn’t just utilize hot water from the sink–the dishwasher adds its own more powerful heat. I use this dishwasher in my studio apartment, and the end result of dishwashing is generally that dishes turn out as clean as they would in an installed dishwasher of medium performance. The sink hookup–which is sturdy enough for me to feel confident about leaving my apartment with the washer running–has been made convenient and generally easy to use–for a sink hookup, at least.
Cons:
-it’s fairly loud when operating;
-the design of the inside rack, I think, is poor–it’s not hard for utensils and smaller dishes to protrude through the bottom of the rack and block the rotating sprayer below. It’s important that you take the time to carefully place your dishes not only for fit inside a small dishwashers, but also to ensure against this kind of blocking;
-it’s imperative that you use a rinse aid, as the dishwasher with detergent alone doesn’t seem to be effective in preventing spots on clean dishes;
-it’s difficult to determine when the dishes are actually finished–the machine will indicate this by beeping, but in the interim there are several long pauses and a blinking indicator which can be confusing in asking yourself, “is it done? Can I disconnect it from the sink now?”
-my own model was sent with a slightly crooked lower panel, which wears badly on my “OCD” in wanting the thing to look straight and together.
Bottom Line:
For the price you pay for this dishwasher ($280 with shipping factored in), the apartment-friendly size and portability of the thing, and for the technology–which is surprisingly high tech–I think it’s a very solid and good-performing piece of equipment. Dishes come out as clean and sanitized as they would from a decent installed dishwasher. To make sure this happens, though, you must take extra care loading the dishwasher and make certain the bottom sprayer isn’t blocked–which can happen fairly easily with a poorly-designed rack. For dishes as clean as they’d be from an installed washer, you must use a rinse-aid and the most powerful cleaning setting. The technology isn’t there yet for this be five stars, but the Edgestar represents a pretty solid shot at getting there.
This countertop dishwasher has issues
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I have had this dishwasher for a month, and it does an okay job of washing dishes. But it has issues:
1) The normal wash cycle is 2 hours. The speedy one is 70 min.
2) The rack is completely specialized for a certain arraignment of dishes. It has large holes in the bottom rack, and you have to be creative in your dish an pan arraignment or things will fall through the rack.
3) In spite of all the time it takes to wash the dishes, they come out covered in water. I have to either let them dry in the dishwasher overnight or dry them by hand. My previous countertop dishwasher was a Danby. After a cycle I would open the door and the dishes were so warm they steam dryed in a few minutes.
4) There is no setting for the dishwasher to preheat the water.

I was so excited to be getting this dishwasher before it arrived. Once I did receive it we were able to operate it just fine. However, the wash cycle is ridiculously long. There is no dry cycle. And worst of all… the setup of the trays for holding your dishes is extremely strange and practically unusable. The shapes created by the way the carriage is designed and where the bars stick up, how far apart they are, limit the number and types of dishes that can be entered. Sincerely, you can only wash 4 cups, 4 plates, 4 bowls, etc. And they must be configured in the washer the way the thing was designed. It’s a pain. I gave it away. I bought it originally because I felt that my silverware and tupperware were not looking “clean” after sink washing. I hoped the super hot electric washing would help. But now I just add a 1/2 cup of vinegar to my soapy sink water, and everything I wash by hand looks incredible! Makes more sense to manually wash than buying this thing does.
So far so good….

I have been having this dishwasher for about 2 weeks now. I have been running it everyday and it works perfectly. Just hope the unit is built to last…. I saw reviews about the unit breaking down after a few months…
Frustrated

I’m giving this product two stars rather than a one star because I’m cheering for it, but I’m really not happy with my purchase so far. I plug it in and it seems like it’s going to run, but then it just starts beeping and beeping. No error, just beeping. I have yet to have a successful wash. I will call Danby on Monday, so I’ll update this review when I find out more.
Actually 1-star. Two ordered, two broke.

Update to below: [I can now attest to the longevity of the dishwasher. I ended up buying that extra dishwasher for my cousins. They used it more than myself, and soon their window began to leak, and completely soaked their countertop and floor. So, they called in to the manufacturer and let's just say they totally gave them the run around. They bought a regular portable dishwasher, and tried to hide it from me because it was a gift. Just several months after theirs leaked, ours did also. They recommended we give up on it, and not try to fix it. I kept it and put it away, I might buy some epoxy sealant to fix it later. I think it's a cool machine. I was surprised at how well it cleaned, but these things are just ridiculous to leak so soon and consistantly. If I could I would change the star to a 1, because this money could have been spent on a good dishwasher from the get-go.]
I cannot attest to the longevity of this dishwasher, but I have had one for almost a month. It makes my life easier, I didn’t have to fool with anything major. I needed something quick, easy, convenient, and something that was small. I didn’t want to be wasteful and have a full sized dishwasher, because I really only need a small one. This has worked perfectly. I basically use the “Rapid” cycle which is the shortest wash cycle available. I haven’t had any problems with the dishes being unclean. I also believe it does not use much power if you use rapid cycle. It doesn’t really heat the water up much until you select a more intense cycle. I did however put in a cast iron skillet and used the ultra-hot intense wash cycle, and that sucker came clean! I have a family member wanting one, so I am about to order a second one for them.
It seems like some dude in China built a million of these things, and then put them into circulation and closed up. I mean, they put out this crap item, EVERYONE has experienced problems with, then there is no customer support. Such a shame.
A huge convenience

I just purchased this yesterday from a classified listing on CL (the person never used it and bought it through Amazon). I absolutely hate doing dishes (the one time I did them anyway since moving into my new apartment and buying paper plates).
Hook up was very simple- Just hook up two hoses to the unit, screw on a quick-release adapter to the sink faucet (then hook up the hoses to the sink via the quick-release system), and plug in the unit. That’s it.
I was a little impatient, and forgot to get dishwashing detergent on my way home- so I just washed my dishes with water only, simply to test it out. To my amazement, the dishes came out sparkling clean, even with no detergent (though the silverware could have benefited slightly from detergent). I can imagine that detergent would make cleaning pretty much perfect all the way around. I was also a little apprehensive about there being no mention of a drying cycle. However, at least with the Santi-wash setting, the dishes are dry within about 15-20 minutes after the washing cycles completes (I think this is partly due to dishes being sufficiently hot such that the water simply evaporates off of them).
I never imagined I could be so happy with a basic appliance, but this thing is really cool, and I no longer dread using my non-paper dishes.
unable to use due to “low water pressure”
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I lasted 3 years without a dishwasher but it was driving me nuts. Our kitchen is tiny so we got this EdgeStar countertop dishwasher. We might have got the Danby but it’s only available in white and all our kitchen is black/silver so we got the EdgeStar.
Had to go to the store to get an adapter to make this work with my type of faucet… no big deal. Plugged it in and it will work for up to ten minutes before shutting off and noting “E1″, error message 1 “taking too long to fill up with water” which is likely a water pressure issue.
I don’t have any method to change the water pressure in my home so must return.
Meets Expectations
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this dishwasher for about a month now and so far so good. Other reviews were helpful in pointing out that the powder detergent works best and to be sure to press the pressure release (red button) before disconnecting the hoses. I have found that although some water is supposed to stay in the unit, some still remains in the hoses after the cycle is complete. I usually just start a new cycle and then stop it after it pumps the remaining water out. That seems to do the trick.
As my cabinets are very low, I ended up putting the dishwasher on a rolling cart and easily connecting the hose to the sink for each use. I read that some people had trouble with the sink attachment breaking after several uses, so I just keep it screwed on and then just snap the hose in place when needed.
All of my dishes fit into the washer, for some of the larger ones, I just had to try a few times to face them in different directions. For my wife and I, we fit 1-2 days of our dishes in with no problem. I am planning to stick something on the side of the washer to hold the hoses/cord in place though.
Best Bet if You Can’t Live Without a Dishwasher
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this dishwasher for about one year now and it’s been quite a pleasure to own. When I moved into my new apartment, I knew I wouldn’t be able to live without a dishwasher anymore, so I ended up buying one of these. Though I don’t have a particularly good place to put it, I ended up putting it on top of a microwave cart I got at Target, next to the sink and it has worked out well.
Key points I’ve observed:
* The red button on the hose is to reduce the pressure in the hose prior to removing it from the faucet — it would be nice if someone told me that before the first time I used this.
* I had some trouble with getting the facuet adapter to fit well, but after I put a washer in and had it in for a few days, I’ve never seen the slightest drip out of it
* The hose is too short to make this practical in a lot of situations and I couldn’t find anywhere to buy the appropriate hose. A movable cart is a good idea if you don’t have room to house is permanently next to the sink.
* Use the tabs or packets of detergent. I had very poor results using regular liquid detergent, and there’s no where to put a rinse agent. Electrosol tabs ought to be 2x too much detergent for this, but all I know is they work great.
I can’t wash pots and pans like I could with my full-size dishwasher before, but they never fit in right anyway and used up most of the room. I am able to cram 6 full size plates into this dishwasher easily, along with lots of other stuff. The one problem is glasses. There is no good place to put any but the tiniest glasses. Since I rarely use any, I don’t find this to be a problem, but it could be a decision point for others.

This product stinks! It uses too much water and doesn’t clean a damn thing even after I pre-soaked my dishes for an hour! I figure the positive reviews must be from shills. I’m sending this POS back!
