The Yugo of Microwaves
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Target’s own website had 77 reviews of this microwave and it received an overall TWO rating. Emerson’s website reviews were poor also. I give it a one rating.

This Emerson microwave was a gift and within a year it died. If you google this microwave, it has a lot of reliability issues. Since it was a gift, I did not have the receipt but after going up the chain, I was given an authorization to send this microwave back. Emerson’s policy on faulty microwaves such as the Emerson 900 watt is to make customers pay to ship it back (cost $32) AND enclose a $15 check inside the box. So much for standing up for their product.

Don’t buy this microwave if you care about reliability as this is the Yugo of microwaves.

I love this microwave!

I previously had a 1300 watt panasonic microwave that was larger than this one. It went bad and I decided I wanted a red one. I came across this one on sale at Target and wasn’t sure I wanted it because it was quite a bit smaller than my old one and less powerful. But I liked the way it looked and went ahead and bought it, and I’m so glad I did. I love everything about this microwave. Emerson put a lot of thought into how the buttons work. I love the one-touch buttons. Just press the “1″ and you get one minute; you don’t have to press the start button. If you want an extra 30 seconds, just press the start button. I can’t say enough about this product. And the smaller size works just fine for me. I don’t really notice that it’s less powerful than my old one, except maybe when I’m making popcorn. If you’re thinking about buying this, go ahead… You won’t be disappointed.

Not all that happy

A couple of downsides to this microwave:

1. If you are using the timer to time something, it wont let you also simultaneously cook something in the microwave. You have to cancel the timer first. My old microwave was 10 years old and it could do this simple multitask.

2. The beeping is too loud. Piercing even. So is the smacking sound the door makes when you close it. It tends to wake up the rest of the house if used before everyone else is up.

3. It doesn’t seem to cook evenly. My co-worker has the same microwave and has had the same experience.

Cheap / Ugly and incapable of heating food evenly
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I recently had to buy all new kitchen appliances and decided to go in sporty red this time. Being a typical girl I saw this microwave online and had to have it JUST because it was red.

First thing I noticed after unwrapping it was how cheap it really looks. But okay – I was being cheap and didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg. My fault?! Who knows.

Sure it is easy to handle as it is idiot proof. Push the button 1 and it starts doing it’s magic for one minute without you having to push the start button. Hooraay. Cooking results are totally uneven and vary each time. My old microwave was cheaper and didn’t have those issues.

The beeping after the cycle is done is ABSOLUTELY annoying. It is ear piercing and manages to wake up everyone in the house. Opening and closing the door is equally annoying as it is also very loud. No quiet click but rather a deafening CLONK……

Last thing on my negative list is the fact that the darn light stays on if the door is open. Sometimes I just want the food smell and moisture the be able to escape so I leave the door open. Nothing worse to me than opening the microwave in the morning and getting a whiff of last nights popcorn. Unfortunately with this microwave it keeps the light on as long as the door is open. That really does annoy me because I now have to choose wheather I rather deal with a higher electricity bill or the smell of stale popcorn…. DON’T LIKE IT AT ALL

The only thing it’s good for is warming up my son’s baby jars for lunch and dinner.

So far So good

I purchased this microwave to use until we remodel our kitchen and install a built in microwave oven. I didn’t want to spend very much and wanted something that looked decent. This microwave was on sale at a great price and even though I didn’t particularly want an emerson, it was cheap and it did look good. Thanksgiving day we had a huge meal at our house and several people complemented the looks of the microwave, and they were shocked at how inexpensive it was. Weve been using the microwave for a couple months now, and there is nothing that I can complain about. I think everything including the timer keyboard functions perfectly for what we need.

Nice color, but doesn’t last long!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Lured by the fact that it’s red, which matches one of my kitchen/family room accent colors, I purchased this microwave at Target about a year ago. In short, it’s already dying. It now makes an awful groaning sound when cooking for more than a couple of minutes; you have to nuke everything on high; the “quick start” feature (minute numbers one through nine) works haphazardly.

Darn shame because the color and the price were perfect, which is why I made the mistake of ignoring other people’s negative reviews; it’s fair to say that you get what you pay for, and I now have to shop for a new microwave.Emerson 900-Watt Microwave Oven – Red

Decent small microwave
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is a decent microwave, with the added bonus of being red. It’s got a disconcerting keypad — pressing numbers 1 to 6 starts it cooking that number of minutes — but after RTFM, it’s not hard to figure out how to deal with that piece of poor design.

It cooks well, doesn’t overheat like some microwaves and it doesn’t take up much real estate. I like it.

Totally nice and cute

I like this microwave and I really wanted a red one. But the cord on it is very, very short. I only have one outlet in my kitchen (annoying), and I would have liked to have known prior to buying it that the cord is about half as long as my old microwave. So I thought I would let people know.

annoying!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Have had this little Emerson microwave for about one year now and it is still annoying the heck out of me! The reason I can’t stand this thing another day is its awful eardrum-piercing beeps and cheap-sounding, loud metallic clunk when closing the door. Am so sorry that I gave my trusty old microwave away on FreeCycle when I inherited this one from my mother. Do yourself a favor and spend a few more bucks for a more solid microwave. This one feels and sounds cheap. And its performance is just ok, not great. Heating is slowish and uneven on potatoes and frozen foods. My two star rating on this one is probably too generous.
