arrived with a dent in stainless strip

I needed a stainless steel microwave for my new kitchen. The microwave arrived with a dent in the stainless steel strip on the door. I returned it to J$R for an exchange. Because of a built-in shelve in my kitchen I am limited in options for a new micro-wave because of size. The Sharp R-216LS is the only microwave I could find that is stainless and fits in my space. I would probably order a different type after I saw the microwave. It does look okay, but the door is fairly flimsy and the stainless steel consists of only two thin strips on the door. Not surprising that it arrived with a dent, because the door does not feel very solid.
Keypad issues increase over time

I bought this microwave several years ago. Shortly after i got it i noticed the numbers of the clock/timer were wearing out. Before long you couldn’t tell the difference between 1:00 and 8:00, because all but the left side of the minute indicator had stopped working. Over time more and more buttons on the keypad stopped responding. The ’start’ button no longer works, so now i can’t input specific times. I can just click “minute plus” and then stand there and stop it early if i want less time than that. The popcorn buttons still works, and that has always popped corn very well. Anyway, it’s almost unusable at this point, which is why i’m shopping for a new (and definitely different) unit.

Light weight, compact, style is modern, works great warming the food. One of the better reviews & looking @ stores considerig the guidelines for the dorm were no more than 1,000 Watts.
Bad Adhesive on Front Door Decal

We thought the price for the microwave given the brand and size of it was a little high, but we wanted a small microwave that somewhat matched our kitchen appliances so we bought this. The microwave itself works fine (it’s acceptable), however the adhesive that was used on the front door is bad, very bad. At first we tried just rubbing it off with our fingers, then we tried a dry cloth, we tried soap and hot water, window cleaner, amonia, vinegar. Didn’t work. Even tried wallpaper adhesive remover, didn’t work. The stuff just smeared all around the door. After all of this effort, we got the door cleaned up enough to where we had just four nickle sized globs of this glue and basically what was originally there. Then a friend decided to bring over a brand name product meant for cleaning glue, it crystalized the adhesive onto the door and cracked the plastic. Now we’re trying to find a new door for the microwave. The parts store does not have them. So buyer beware.

The delivery is on time. However, the first time it arrvied, almost half of the keypad doesn’t work. I requested an exchange. 2nd time it arrived, the microwave made a loud noise whenever it is turned on. Bad product!
I end up returned it and bought a panasonic from local store.
Piece of Junk – Don’t waste your money

The glue from hell….

I didn’t keep either microwave long enough to determine whether or not it deserved any stars. I sent the first one back because it was dented. I sent the second one back because a label on the front door was attached with “the glue from hell”. I tried everything non-abrasive to remove this adhesive, just as other reviewers have related…rubbing with my finger, a soft towel, plain water, and soap. I finally called Sharp’s “customer service” department (now, there’s a misnomer). The rep was totally unconcerned, but finally suggested “denatured alcohol”. Assuming that these people know their product, I gave it a try, with disastrous results. This stuff, which was recommended by the manufacturer, succeeded only in spreading the glue around. I won’t give Sharp another chance to send me an acceptable product, but I will continue to deal with Amazon. Their no-hassle return policy has made this situation tolerable, and, for that, I would give them 10 stars if I could.
Almost Perfect

This is a fine microwave, quieter than many and good looking as well. The food really cooks evenly, and the defrost setting seems quite smart. The turntable is well made and the unit removes easily for washing. Pressing the start button alone gives you one minute at high. For me the size of the unit is perfect. My only caveat is the light, which works fine when the oven is running, but not when the oven is stopped and the door is opened. Still, I would buy this microwave again.

As other reviewers have mentioned, underneath all the carefully placed, protective plastic that keeps this microwave shiny, Sharp sticks a little card on the very front of the door. The card is stuck to the microwave door with a potent, stubborn glue, so I went out and purchased some goof off (about $7), a product made for removing such sticky residues. The goof off corroded the front of the microwave, completely ruining the black, plastic cover aesthetically. I called Sharp customer “service” to see if they could send me the plastic part that was ruined. They had put the glue on it to begin with and it seemed like reasonable customer service. (I can’t imagine that it costs more than $1 to make the little piece.) They would not, so I asked if I could buy the part. The customer service was _completely_ unhelpful. Finally, (calls later) I tried to simply get them to help me find the _name_ of the I needed or the part number, so I could order it from someone else. (A very small number of retailers and “Sharp service centers” sell parts for these microwaves, but most don’t have pictures or have the parts on-hand and finding the exact part I needed was almost impossible.) They refused to help with with this as well. (When I finally found the part I needed from Andrew’s electronics, it was over $40, not including shipping.) Overall, I think I had a problem that could have been solved very easily and at little cost with good customer service, but Sharp’s service was abominable. (Specifically, I spoke with Jason at approximately 2:35 pm EDT on 9/30/09 and then Camille (sp?) at about 3:00 pm on 9/30/09.)
Finally, after I thought I was stuck with an aesthetically ruined microwave, I called Amazon and told them about my problem. They said they were totally backing the product and allowed me to return it for a full refund. They even paid return shipping. Needless to say, I was _extremely_ impressed with Amazon.

I ordered this Sharp because I wanted a small microwave similar to the one I was replacing….size was important. Looked great…BUT THE UNIT WAS SO NOISEY THAT I FINALLY CALLED TO GET A REFUND! As usual Amazon was great..they sent me a pp return to print…which I did…we looked at the bottom of the unit and found several screws loose. Took care of that and the carosal turntable was where the noise was coming from…then it began to quiet down….now it doesn’t make the noise and I did not return it!!I still think it is great for the money and if you don’t use it for “serious” cooking…It was not off the track as I know that noise…I don’t know what or why….
You get what you pay for …

The only big complaint I had with this product (one mentioned by others) is the decal on the front cover – when you go to peel it off, you end up scratching the surface. I don’t know what kind of glue they use for the decal/sticker, and I tried a lot of products to get this sticker off without messing with the look of the microwave, but no luck. Not sure why they didn’t use a normal/conventional peel off decal that doesn’t ruin the look of the appliance.
BUYER BEWARE – Loud Rattle Noise Microwave

I just received this product and it is being returned today. It looks great on the outside but it is cheaply made and makes a very loud noise when operable. I should have read these reviews more carefully before placing the order. I am a huge Amazon customer and must admit this was my only disappoinment. I have had microwave for around a month and so far so good. It is a very attractive design and I am happy with it. It was hard taking the paper clued to the door off but i scrubbed it and it left no residue.

I was uncertain at first if I would be happy with this microwave because it was less expensive and smaller than the others, but it works great. I am really happy with it and would recommend it to anyone, especially if you have limited counter space.
