Disappointed
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The Krups coffeemaker is a nice machine but all its attachments are very cheap – the coffee pot is very cheap the lid doesn’t fit correctly it is very poor quality which I did not expect for the price. I like the coffee the machine makes. I enjoy espresso so I like that feature but wish it made slightly larger quantities (very small amounts made and can only fit a tiny cup under the espresso maker). I did expect better and have been disappointed for the price but do enjoy coffee and continue to use it each morning.
Why buy two makers that work if you can buy one that doesn’t?

This item seemed like a great idea, but has been a pain since purchase. It is unnecessarily difficult to program. The espresso maker/steamer is very tempermental and unforgiving. The espresso maker soon failed completely. Coffee maker was fine and it did a good job steaming milk, but don’t recommend due to overall poor design.
Was nice…for a while!

Like many others, I had been a Krups devotee and bought this machine within the first few months it was available. It never quite lived up to expectations, and then the espresso machine went all weird. Here are the main issues…
1. Overall design looks great on the kitchen counter, but the coffee carafe lid broke within the first month (plastic peg broke off) and the lid would never again properly fit and lock down. That made it almost impossible to brew coffee, and highly challenging to pour coffee without it spilling out. So, I gave it 3 stars for overall design.
2. Since I mainly bought it for espresso, it worked pretty well. I used the pods, which are absolutely wonderful (especially the Lavazza and illy). I was able to fine-tune the extraction time to be just right. But it never got quite as hot as I would like. All in all, very nice and convenient espresso – 4 stars.
3. Aside from the carafe lid issue, the coffee maker just didn’t cut it. Never tasted quite right. Again, the temp was not as hot as coffee should be. 2 stars.
4. This is where Krups broke my heart. After years of counting Krups as a great brand, I may never again touch one of their products. The first machine I bought had something wrong with the espresso pump. I carefully followed the setup instructions, but the pump either didn’t work and worked intermittently. There was NO help in the user guide, so I called Krups. There were absolutely no help on the phone. They instructed me to send it in for warranty repair (2-3 weeks). So I just reboxed it and took it back to Best Buy for an exchange. The new machine worked as described previously for a little over a year. Then, the espresso part started cutting the extraction time — from 25 seconds, to 22, to 15…and finally to under 10 seconds. Ever try to drink a 10-second cup of espresso? I tried everything to adjust the extraction time (didn’t work), to unplug and reset the whole machine (didn’t work). The machine is now out of warranty and Krups has been no help at all.
So now I have a nice-looking, completely useless kitchen counter accent piece. If it’s worth about $200 bucks to impress your guests with looks, go ahead…just don’t offer them any coffee!!
If You’re Debating on Which Espresso/Coffee Machine to Buy…
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
…don’t buy this one. The espresso half is very, very slow, so making more than one drink takes an unnecessarily long time. It also can’t make coffee or keep it warm while trying to make an espresso: you’d be better off buying two separate machines.
It also broke after 3 arduous months.
Don’t waste your money or time.
Absolute trash

I have now owned two of these machines. They both broke within a few months of purchase. This is hardly the technology and reliability German products are known for. Don’t bother buying this machine. It’s a piece of junk.
Wish I had read these reviews prior to purchasing

After becoming addicted to our morning mocha’s and wanting to make them at home for less money we wandered into our Bed, Bath and Beyond looking for an espresso and milk frothing machine. We lucked out with this machine because it also had a coffee pot for our regular coffee pot drinking visitors. We loved the machine for awhile. Then, while frothing milk, the rubber nozzle kept shooting out into the milk during the froth. We would have to wait for the steam to build up and try again. This happened every time we frothed. I finally called and got a free new rubber nozzle. This worked much better, never shooting off. However, neither nozzle has ever correctly “frothed” the milk. There is never any froth at the top. All it does is heat up the milk.
We have been in the market for a fully automatic machine anyways because the process of making our mocha is still time consuming, grinding beans, cleaning out the beans, adding more water, dealing with the milk frother. We are looking for one that grinds and self cleans.
Anyways, today, our less than 2 year old machine finally died on us. So, we will be getting a new machine fast.
This machine was ok for the time we had it. We dealt with the no froth. But, I would not recommend this machine. In fact, if you are looking for a machine like this, it is probably time to just spend a few more hundred and get a fully automatic machine.
KRUPS WORST COFFEE MAKER
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I’ve had 2 other KRUPS coffee makers that lasted me almost 30 years. I bought the 2070 out of loyalty, but this machine is unbelievably awful!
The directions are dreadfully difficult to follow. I called customer service 3 times in the set up, and THEY didn’t know how to do things like cancel a program –without unplugging the unit, which would change the time to 12:00.
Drawbacks:
Directions are awful.
Nothing is in the least bit intuitive.
There are buttons with no labels on them, which are essential to operation and programming.
Programming is difficult and involves unlabeled buttons and button pressing sequence that must be memorized.
No one could use the machine without reading the directions.
The way you use the unlabeled “S1 and S2″ buttons is completely counter-intuitive…you’d have to try it to believe they could even come up with the sequence of setting hours and minutes, and confirming a program.
Changing the program is difficult.
There is a 90 second + delay between making the espresso and being able to froth milk.
The coffee pot is pretty small.
I’m very wary of the electronics.
I know some comments here seem redundant…but they are not… Using the machine is very intricate. No simple push button. And every thing you want to do requires different sequences….
RUN AWAY from this machine!
Kraps oh oops Krups coffee/espresso machine XP2070
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Owned 2 of this model, first one the espresso machine stopped working after maybe 5 months,I was lucky enough to convince Krups to send out a new one, 2nd one I thought my house was haunted at first when it started turning on and resetting its clock and then it started turning on and off at odd hours of the night, now i must always leave it unplugged cause it always turns on and off by itself! Not a safe thing for when no one is home. Also espresso machine only works when it feels like it. My husband bought this item for me for me for Christmas and seriously regrets spending [...] bucks on this garbage. First purchased 12/07
DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM!!!!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I had to rate this item with one star to submit the review, but I wouldn’t even give it that much. Do not even think about buying this item… I wouldn’t even buy another Krups product after owning this machine. I used to think Krups was a decent brand, but after this machine, I see that Krups should be called KRAPS.
We bought this machine in December 2008 and loved it. Then one night I got the great idea to fill it and set the timer so it would be ready in the morning when I woke up. Instead of finding hot brewed coffee in the morning, I found a counter and floor covered in water. Thinking that I may have mispoured the water into the reservoir, I tried again the next night. Same thing – ok, I won’t do that again – not a huge issue, but that sucks.
In March 2009, the machine just quits working. The electronics are shot. I unplug it, plug it back in, move it to a new outlet, let it “rest” for a week and plug it back in … absolutely nothing. So here is where Krups’ customer service really impressed me. Keep in mind that I did plenty of online research for this particular model before calling Krups and in about 20 minutes I found approximately 100 postings with similar complaints. (I should have done my research before buying this model)
I call to ask about returning it under warranty and they tell me that is no problem. I have to pay to ship it to them, they’ll try to fix it and if they can’t fix it, they’ll send me a new one. I tell them that I don’t want a new one because of the amount of poor reviews I’ve seen. In all the reviews I see that a new one is sent, it breaks also but by then it’s out of warranty and the individual is out of luck. It’s obviously a defective model and I want my money back. Krups won’t give me my money back because there hasn’t been a recall. I ask what it takes for there to be a recall because it seems to me there are plenty of customers with the same complaint. They tell me there doesn’t seem to be a problem and that is a small percentage compared to their overall sales. Ok, maybe people are just complaining online but sucking up their losses. After going back and forth for several minutes I realize the girl is just a low-paid secretary with no people skills so I ask to speak to her supervisor or someone else with a modicum of authority. She tells me that nobody is available and that if I give her my number someone will call within 24 hours. What other choice do I have, so I leave my number. Nobody returns my call. Again, this is just like the other 100 reviews I found. Matter of fact, the Better Business Bureau has the same types of complaints written on their website.
So I turn to Bed, Bath and Beyond, where we bought the Krups machine, as a last resort. They were absolutely wonderful. They took the Krap machine back without a receipt and with only one question, “What is wrong with it.” I told them all about what was wrong with it and highly recommended that they quit carrying the product. I am now a happy and loyal customer … to Bed Bath and Beyond … and NOT EVER TO KRUPS again. I only hope that Krups bring themselves into the 21st century and do a little research of their own. They should also invest in a higher quality of customer service if they want to keep or even boost their business.
Will be returning the Krups XP2070 after 2 weeks
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I received this on May 30, 09 as a gift after seeing it and briefly commenting on its lovely appearance. After two weeks of daily hassles, I will be returning this product. The water resevior is awkward to fill, coffee brews very slowly and the caraffe does not catch all of the coffe that brews. This coffee spills onto the countertop, in my limited experience apx. 1/3 of the amount of coffee I’ve expected to brew in the pot ends up on the counter (and today into the drawer below the counter and the floor). Spout on the caraffe also is tricky, unless it is poured very slow, the coffee dribbles down the side of the pot and again… onto the counter. I haven’t used the espresso option and don’t dare try it at this point. This product will be returned to Bed, Bath and Beyond today along with my strong recomendation that they remove the item from their inventory.
Cruddy machine and even cruddier service
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
After months of this machine leaking all over the counter, I called Krups for warranty service, whereupon I was informed that I would have to pay to ship it to a repair facility. Given the weight of the machine, paying to pack and ship it was not a small expense — around $40. About a month later, I received it back with no explanation of what was wrong with it. That might explain why, as soon as I fired it up again, it leaked again. And again. And again. I’m not about to pay another $40 to ship it back to them (that would be a total of $80 in expenses to ensure a $350 machine works). I’ve cut my losses, but I certainly won’t be purchasing any products from Krups again.
Awful

I bought this to replace a Krups combo machine I had for 11 years and loved. I will never buy a Krups product again. I went through three of these in 18 months. They would work fine for 6 months and then just die. No lights, display….nothing. This is a common theme for these machines so obviously there’s some type of fatal design flaw. Someone should bring a class action lawsuit. Oh, and the carafe made it almost impossible to pour a cup of coffee without spilling…it was comical. It’s sad, I want a combo machine but I don’t want to spend $1000. I had such high hopes for this machine, especially after having it’s predecessor for 11 years.
Good coffee, poor durability
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This machine worked well for us for about eighteen months. Then it just stopped working. I opened it up to see if it had a fuse or something, but none is apparent. Since it is out of warranty it sounds like the costs to repair and the likelihood of having a good functioning machine afterwards (based on other reviews on this site) are not worth the effort. There have to be better machines for $300 out there that will last more than two years. My wife’s family in Italy have had the same espresso machine for as long as I have known them. About fifteen years.
KRUPS XP2070–2months and no power!!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
When I purchased the XP2070…seemed simple and made a good cup of expresso. I used it daily for drip coffee and then today–the power did not come on. Like some other reviewers–no power, no LED, no display–NOTHING. Thank goodness, I had purchased it at a military store and still under the 90 day store warranty and they took it back with no problems. I’ll keep looking for a reliable combo machine!
BOUGHT USED FOR THE PUMP
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I got it used off Cheapcycle, mainly for the pump which seems to work fine. I’ll use it to resurrect my old KRAPS that made really good ’spresso…The girl said it worked great but i knew something was up so i wasn’t going to pay more than $20 and she came down from $40. Sure enough, it will make espesso for a few seconds, then the display starts blinking and it stops. Apparently, the computer is haywire…it makes coffee but seems a bit weak, i think i can dissect the pump out and sell it just as a coffee maker and get my $20 back haha
Cold coffee
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
For the price that I paid I would expect a least hot coffee. As soon as I finished to brew a coffee I drunk it, for my surprise the coffee was just a litle warm. I had many other cheap coffee machine that the coffee was hotter than this expensive one. So don’t waste your money in this piece of junk.
Makes great coffee and espresso until it breaks
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I’ll admit up front that my XP2070 was refurbished and I didn’t purchase it from Amazon. However, I’ve decided to post my experience here since I know a lot of people read these reviews and I think the information I have to present is relevant.
To be fair, this machine makes great coffee and good espresso. However, I feel it has design flaws that make it failure prone. Mine worked almost perfectly for about a year and then went completely dead. I say almost perfectly because, although the coffee it made was great, it leaked like crazy. I believe this is why it failed.
It didn’t seem to be getting power at all, so I thought there might be an internal fuse that had blown. Since there wasn’t a warranty to worry about, I opened it up to see if I could fix it.
I didn’t find a fuse but I think I know why it failed. Most of the electronics for this unit are located at the very bottom of the case, directly under the espresso water tank. The designer clearly new this might pose a problem, as the main circuit board is housed in a plastic case to shield it from water. I removed the plastic case and found it was completely covered in hard water stains. I then removed the circuit board and also found evidence of standing water on it.
Further investigation revealed the corner of the board where the 110v power cable attached looked burnt. Many of the circuit board traces had a thin layer of solder on them (by design). The solder on the traces running from where the power input connected to the board were burned through. In my layman’s opinion, this is why the machine wasn’t getting power.
I attempted to repair the traces, but the results weren’t pretty. In the end, I decided it was beyond my capabilities to fix and threw the machine away.
Finally, a word or two about the construction of this unit. The individual internal components seem to be of fairly high quality, but the assembly looks like the work of a third grader. I think the solder on the main circuit board was done by hand and the results were not very precise. There were also areas where water hoses were partially kinked resulting in reduced water flow.
In the end, it is my opinion that if the electronics were moved to the top half of the unit, failures would be reduced immensely.
Very nice, professional machine

I bought this for my husband (a true coffee aficionado) for Father’s Day. He loves it. He especially likes how fast it makes quality espresso. We had our last Krups coffee/espresso maker for 15 years. If this one lasts 1/2 that long (with how much he uses it) it will be more than worth the money.
After years of owning a Krups ….what a disappointment
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
First of all, the machine made an excellent espresso, nice foamy crema, however, the water was not hot enough to make coffee the temperature was a meager 140 degrees where it should have been a 160 degree. It was impossible to pour without spilling all over the countertop. Oh and the noise, make sure everyone is up before commencing making espresso or steaming milk. A very awkward design as far as pouring water in and fitting under the counter.
Good for taking up landfill space

Bought this new in Feb 09. Worked good for the first 5 months, then would not make espresso, the lights on the unit just flash and beep but no espresso. called krups, (unit was still under warranty)got some gum chewing 18 yr old with an attitude on the phone telling me there is nothing they can do over the phone to help me and I should ship the unit to a repair center 1,000 miles away at my cost both ways. I decided that the $100.00 plus shipping I would have spent cant be put towards a different espresso maker (not a krups) and I threw the dam thing in the trash. Lesson learned!
